When beginning a new path, self-limiting beliefs, doubts, and feelings of urgency can and often will arise. It is normal to feel like the ‘good life’ is in the distant future but by breaking it down into more manageable pieces, we can understand how to attain it.
The Art of Sensuality puts joy and beauty at the forefront of our lives.
Sensuality becomes a grand tapestry of small, intimate, and intentional moments. It is a way to romanticize our lives, while still being rooted in the ebbs and flows of this great existence. Becoming a master of sensuality takes time, practice, and intention, however, it’s not hard to begin this journey today and begin seeing results right away!
In no particular order, here’s a short list of how you can start today!
-
-
Touch yourself, all over. Explore. Not just the obvious arousal zones either. Play a game with yourself or with your partner. Try to see if you can find the most unusual spots you find pleasure. Is it above your ear, behind your knees, two fingers beneath your collarbone, or the top of your head? You decide what feels good. Leave shame and self loathing behind for now. Experience yourself with curiosity and tenderness.
-
Throw away at least one item in your closet that makes you feel unloveable, ugly, too big, too small, or less than your most radiant self. One step toward greatness is all I’m asking! I know you can do it!
-
Dance with yourself or your partner for one dance, everyday. Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to look perfect. The idea is to get out of your head and back into your body. Let loose, it’s fun!
-
Make an effort to ask for what you want today, even if it’s as simple as asking for more sugar in your coffee than what the barista originally gave you. If you never ask, you’ll never know.
-
Wear a matching undergarment set all day. Your best set if possible, and tell no one. You are beautiful and if you don’t know it already, you will soon. It is your little secret. You will glow from deep within. And if by chance someone comes along, worthy of knowing your secret, they’ll love it, too. They’ll be privy to a secret beauty that no one else knows today, just the two of you.
-
Pick a star up in the night sky to represent you. Then, bare your soul to yourself. Reveal all the things you’re afraid to say out loud or admit to yourself. It can be difficult to live sensually when we block ourselves off from our own inner desires and worries.
-
For five minutes, close your eyes and listen to falling water. Some examples of falling water are rain, water from your showerhead, a waterfall, water fountain, etc. Observe your sense of sound. Embrace the therapeutic, meditative qualities. Allow yourself to be enveloped by humanity and let it connect you to divinity.
-
All day today, use your best china and finest cutlery, even if you only have time to make macaroni and cheese and hot dogs. Then, wash your dishes by hand after use. Take your time. Use lovely smelling soap, relish in the warm, soapy water. Notice the details on the china and experience the act of caring for the beautiful objects you possess.
-
Choose a tree, shrub, or landmark on your route to work. Designate this tree as your Hope Tree. Every time you pass it on the way to work, let it be a reminder of all your hopes, dreams, and desires. Allow this marker to be a reminder of where you’re headed. Having something tangible to focus on that is attached to certain wants and needs is a powerful tool, one that will help you on your sensualist journey. This method can be adapted to almost anything you see on a daily basis.
-
Pay attention to your hair, whether that be by brushing it, oiling it, or tying it in a silk veil or bonnet. Go slow, be intentional, notice your unique beauty. How does your hair lay? Is it springy, voluminous, silky thin? Maybe you don’t have any hair or you regularly wear veils or bonnets. How does your head look? Smooth, bumpy, braided, covered in chiffon? Your crown is beautiful no matter what shape it’s in. Take your time and appreciate your luscious self.

The path of sensuality is an artform. It is made up of small, everyday actions. It is in these actions that we can appreciate pain and pleasure for what it is, the spectrum of life.
The dream of a sensualist is to make everyday life a prayer.
Give these things a try. One day you will understand what I mean, if you don’t already. I believe in this life and I think you will, too.
